April 18th, 2009. This was the day everything became realistic to me. My grandma died and this brought up a lot of questions in my head. The biggest came a couple days later when I asked my mom why her sister hadn't shown for the funeral, and even more importantly, why I have never met my aunt. See, apparently there were a lot of things I didn't know about my grandma or my mom's side of the family in general. I have to admit, when Mom started explaining everything to me, I was completely shocked. Well this is how she explained it all.
"As I grew up, my younger sister Cass always hated the family. She felt she was always being put last in everything, but that really wasn't true. Cass was kind of spoiled, at least compared to us she was. Lori was oldest, then came Me, Cass, and Beth. When Cass was 16, she got pregnant."
That was just the beginning of the list I had NEVER known. It also made me realize why my mom is so protective of me and guys. But the list grew much longer.
"Cass didn't want her baby to be born into unmarried parents and when she was a couple months pregnant her boyfriend, and the father of the child, proposed to her. Since she was only 16 your grandma signed for her to have permission to be married. Cass and her husband were very happy together. They even took there Daughter to Homecomings and to Prom. But by senior year Cass had been married and divorced."
So that was a shocker! But I still didn't understand why she resented Grandma so much. The story continued...
"Well Cass and Grandma were still somewhat close after this, but you could tell she blamed Grandma for letting her get married. But what separated them forever was because Cass would always drop her daughter off at Grandma's to be babysat without even asking if she was available or even home. One day Grandma confronted her asking what she would do if she wasn't home and told her how disrespectful it was to just leave her daughter on the front steps of a house. Cass apparently didn't like this at all and cut off all connections with Grandma. No matter how much she tried to be apart her Cass's life, Cass refused to let her in."
Well that explains it! My aunt, that doesn't even know I exist nor even cares, is a stuck up person! So I found out answers to only a few of my questions that day but I think that was enough for a day. Everything was so surprising and weird, I would of never guessed any of it. When I was younger I'd always ask why there were four girls senior pictures on the wall but I only knew three of them. The only answer I ever got was the fourth girl didn't get along with my mom and other two aunts. At least now I know why.
